Canada Pavilion at COP29

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Canada pavilion at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11-22, 2024.

National pavilions are high-visibility spaces that provide countries and organizations a unique opportunity to showcase their climate efforts, host events, and offer a central networking hub for key partners and stakeholders.

At COP29 in Baku, Canada’s pavilion will showcase the breadth of Canadian climate leadership and innovation by adhering to the following objectives:

  • Showcasing domestic climate commitments and efforts of all actors;
  • Amplifying international support for developing countries;
  • Demonstrating leadership on signature international initiatives (Global Carbon Pricing Challenge, Powering Past Coal Alliance, Net-Zero Challenge, etc.);
  • Building synergies to tackle the triple threat of climate change, biodiversity loss and plastic pollution;
  • Profiling Canadian innovation in our clean tech and energy sectors;
  • Promoting Indigenous Climate Leadership;
  • Upholding Canadian human rights values (including but not limited to: 2SLGBTQI+, people of colour, persons with disabilities, and gender inclusivity).

Event Applications

Thank you for your submissions. The intake process is now closed. Event Leads will be notified via email as to the status of their proposals between Wednesday September 25 and Tuesday October 1st, 2024.

Evaluation criteria

Events selected to be part of the pavilion program will advance the Canada pavilion objectives, showcase Canadian climate leadership and action in one or more of the thematic priorities, and will help deliver on the overarching goals of showcasing diversity, inclusion, and collaboration.

Event applications will be assessed against criteria such as:

  • Relevance to the Canada pavilion objectives
  • Alignment with thematic days
  • Involvement of international actors and content
  • Demonstrated collaboration with partner groups and organizations
  • Convening power and broad appeal of speakers
  • Creative and innovative event formats
  • Ability to spur climate action
  • Language diversity (with priority given to events delivered in French or bilingually)
  • Regional representation, including within Canada and around the world
  • Indigenous participation
  • Youth participation
  • Gender diversity of speakers
  • Inclusion of historically underrepresented people in Canada
