Powering Past Coal Alliance

In 2024, the Powering Past Coal Alliance, co-chaired by Canada and the UK, is hosting a series of Solutions Dialogues to share lessons learned, key findings, and innovative solutions from early movers transitioning away from coal power. The series began in London with a High-Level Dialogue, followed by regional events in Santiago, Jakarta, New York, and Singapore. These dialogues provide a platform for governments, industry, financial institutions, and civil society to share practical solutions for addressing the challenges of early retirement, just transition, and energy security. The COP29 Solutions Dialogue will conclude the series, spotlighting Latin America and Asia-Pacific. It will highlight the support available from governments, technical partners, and financial mechanisms to help emerging economies develop plans and take the necessary steps toward a coal phase-out aligned with the 1.5°C target.
