David Suzuki Foundation

Building on the unprecedented breakthrough in favour of a fossil fuel phase-out achieved at COP28, this event will bring together representatives of sub-national governments, Canadian civil society, and international organizations to discuss the way forward when it comes to accelerating the energy transition in Canada and the United States. Moderated in both official languages, this multi-sectoral panel will highlight the leadership of certain sub-national states, including Quebec – which currently co-chairs the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance (BOGA) – in phasing out fossil fuel exploration and production on their territory, but also the challenges they face, with a view to catalyzing action by other jurisdictions. Drawing on a recent analysis by the International Institute on Sustainable Development, the discussion will also address the key role of civil society in the transition away from oil and gas.

This 90-minute panel will be followed by networking.
